Special Sessions


  • Robert P. Knowles Memorial Lecture: IVECCS guest lecturer for the General Session who is an internationally recognized expert in critical care. Focus will be on present and future monitoring techniques that actually impact patient outcomes.
  • Jack Mara Memorial Team Training Series: A specially designed dry lab for vets and techs. This year the focus will be Analgesia techniques for the emergent and critically ill.
  • Fundamentals of Emergency Medicine: Special track for the practitioner wanting to review EM/CC principles: triage, respiratory failure, cardiac evaluation, fluid resuscitation, transfusion principles, hemorrhage control, acute abdomen and much more
  • Disaster Medicine: A full day dedicated to reviewing the response to the devastating Gulf Coast hurricanes. Numerous speakers who were on the ground will discuss what went right, wrong and how practitioners & technicians should prepare to respond.
  • Abstracts: One full day of Small Animal Abstracts and a half day of Equine Abstracts. Awards will be given for the best SA Resident and best Equine Abstract. Over 50 papers on original research and clinical studies will be presented at IVECCS 2006.
  • Grief Counseling and Compassion Fatigue: Real-life concerns facing emergency & critical care veterinarians and staff. A half-day module devoted to this personal development session.
  • State of the Art: A day of advanced discussions on the most current and often controversial information on a variety of commonly confronted EM/CC monitoring issues; novel therapeutics, and more…
  • Practice Management: Two full days devoted to the most perplexing management issues. A variety of management experts will lead discussions on asset protection, facility design from start to finish; and other personnel, financial, contractual and medico-legal topics.
  • Exotic Animal Emergencies: Core lectures, diagnostics & treatment plans presented for avian, and small mammal emergencies. Practical critical care; & lab techniques discussed. Wet-lab offered as an option for hands-on training.
